Behind the scenes: My first day at BeYou

Hello, lovely BeYou followers! I’m the new kid on the block in the BeYou team. I’m Jess and I’m the new Content & Community Executive which in layman’s terms means I’ll be writing lots of fabulous blogs for you to enjoy!

We have loads of great stuff lined up for you guys, like intergalactic periods, the science behind the change, amazing things women do on their periods and so much more! Being open and honest, not only about our products but also our culture is one of the cornerstones of our company. So we thought a little introduction is in order to let you know about me, my expectations about working at BeYou and what I am looking forward to in the future.

Being me before BeYou

I’ve always enjoyed writing (pretty cheesy I know) and it’s always something I have envisioned myself doing. Whether it’s been writing essays, doing translations, or writing in my diary, the majority of my life I have been writing. At university, I studied English with Spanish and Portuguese and before you ask, no, I don’t want to be a teacher. But language is something that has always interested me and the way people use language to connect and communicate with other people has been equally as fascinating.

Besides language, women’s issues, feminism and the topic of gender have always been a passion of mine. At college myself, with a couple of my friends, organised our own HeForShe campaign, I put together an all-female parody sketch show and even got the opportunity to be an intern at a Domestic Violence awareness charity. After that, I decided to find a job in a company that promoted awareness around women’s issues and made a conscious effort to break taboos and stigmas around gender. That’s when I came across BeYou.

My expectations

When preparing for my interview, I was researching BeYou, the products and the values of the company. Immediately I was surprised to learn about the patches, as I had never seen anything like it before. Was it witchcraft? Black magic? Some weird alien technology from a planet where women don’t feel burdened by their natural bodily processes? Who knows. Whilst delving into the science behind it, I realised the BeYou Patches had actually tapped into something pretty game-changing. Using natural ingredients that didn’t cost the earth, weren’t full of nasty chemicals and were accessible for everyone? Sounds like a great product to me!

Seeing all the brilliant testimonials from ambassadors raving about how great this product was, made me think, “does it actually work?”. In terms of my expectations for the actual brand, I presumed the office would be full of hippy-dippy folk who wanted to realign their chakras and ‘find themselves’. So trust me, I did have certain expectations going into the interview and actually I was very pleasantly surprised.

What’s it really like?

When I stepped into the office on my first day the first thing that hit me was the positive rapport amongst the team. I felt so welcome with a ‘congratulations on graduating’ card meeting me on my desk, as well as a small collection of sweets for me to enjoy. I couldn’t have asked for a better first day. Is the office full of hippies? Nah, we’re just a bunch of people who are passionate about producing quality natural products and truly believe in the brand. We have really open conversations about periods and body positivity, as well as what’s just happened on Love Island and how much we LOVE food. Overall, the office environment is great for me as a new graduate as I have so much freedom in terms of what I want to learn and what I want to write about.

The future…

I’m feeling really optimistic about my time at BeYou. The team have already incorporated me into their vision for the company and want me involved in loads of different projects and future ventures. I really do feel fortunate to work at a company like BeYou. The atmosphere is very forward-thinking and they really do strive to think out of the box in terms of their content and what products they want to produce. The drive and ambition that BeYou has to create thought-provoking content and great products is something I really admire and I am really excited to contribute to this amazing brand.

As always, we hope you found this blog post interesting! If you have any questions for me and what my role is, then feel free to comment below. Hopefully, we’ll see you soon with another more period related post.

Thank you for reading my lil’ post about me and I can't wait to hear what you guys think about our blogs in the near future!

All the BeYou Love,

Jess xoxo
