This is not the fold you’re looking for…
Finding the right fold for you can be somewhat tricky. It entirely depends on your own comfort and what fits you best. If you have certain areas that cause you some discomfort when inserting the cup, i.e the bottom/top of the entrance to your vagina, then choose a fold that won’t cause you any discomfort when inserting it. There are so many folds you can use. There is the C fold, 7 fold, Punch Down fold, the triangle fold, the half diamond, the list goes on. Truly, there really is something for everyone so don’t despair. If you’re having trouble inserting it then you can check out our guide here.
Open Sesame
Now that you’ve popped the sucker in, you need to get it to unfold. Don’t panic if it hasn’t opened right away, there are a couple of things you can do to help it along. Firstly, run your finger around the rim of the cup to encourage it open. Then, try twisting the cup around in a circle to fold the curled edge. Also, you can try dragging the cup down by squeezing the sides and then pushing it back into place. Ultimately, it is just a matter of trial and error, as they say, practice makes perfect!
What the stem?!
The stem of the menstrual cup can be incredibly useful for women who have higher cervixes and need something to grip to remove the cup. For some, it is literally a pain in the vagina. If the stem is beginning to irritate you then you can cut it down to size using the guidelines on the stem. We recommend cutting off a little bit at a time to make sure you get the right length for you.
Keep it clean
It is essential you keep your menstrual cup as clean as you can. Menstrual cups sit in a VERY sensitive area which has its own ecosystem that is not to be disturbed. When you first get your cup it is best to sterilise your cup by popping it in a pan of boiling water for up to 7 minutes or in the microwave for up to 5 minutes. In between washes, you can also boil it for a deep clean or you can use a menstrual cup wash. Our very own BeYou Menstrual Cup Foaming Cleanseris formulated to make sure it kills any nasties on the surface of your cup and still keeps your pH balance in check.
With these little tips, we are sure that starting to use your menstrual will go off without a hitch. Need to get your hands on a menstrual cup? Don't worry, we have got your back.
