jess simms
Congrats you’ve fallen in love with your BeYou Menstrual Cup, we knew you would.
Menstrual cups are not only kind to your wallet but also the environment. The BeYou Menstrual Cup can last for up to 10 years, greatly reducing the number of products you use on your period. To make sure your cup is in tip-top shape we have a few handy tips for you and your new favourite thing.
Sterilising your cup.
The BeYou Menstrual Cup is made of medical grade silicone, meaning there are no nasty chemicals. We do recommend that you sterilise your menstrual cup before use, to make it perfectly pristine for you. You can do this by either two methods:
Option A.
-
Fill a small saucepan with water and bring to the boil
-
Pop your menstrual cup in the pan and leave to sit for 5-7 minutes. Don’t leave the boiling pan unattended.
-
Take the pan off the heat and wait for your cup to cool down before using it again.
Option B.
-
Fill a microwaveable container with cold water
-
Pop your cup into the container making sure the cup is submerged and the container isn’t covered
-
Put the container in the microwave for 3-5 minutes, depending on the power of your microwave
-
Wait until the cup has cooled down before using it again.
In between uses
When emptying and reinserting your cup, it is important to give your cup a quick wash. If at home you rinse it under the tap or if in public, you can do the same with a water bottle.
Another product we highly recommend getting your hands on is a menstrual cup cleanser. Our BeYou Menstrual Cup Foaming Cleanser has been formulated to provide effective, all-natural cleaning for your menstrual cup, ensuring it lasts for as long as it can.
To use your menstrual cup cleanser squirt a small amount on the cup and lather the product with your hands to make it foamy. Then turn the cup inside out and repeat the cleaning process. When you have finished simply rinse your cup with clean water. The BeYou Menstrual Cup Foaming Cleanser can last up to 200 washes, only bettering the longevity of your cup. You can get your hands on our specially formulated menstrual cup wash here.
The more you use your cup, the more likely it will become discoloured. This is nothing to worry about it won’t affect how well the cup works. To reduce the discolouration continue to sterilise it in between uses.
Storing your menstrual cup
After cleaning and drying your menstrual cup, we recommend storing the cup in the cotton BeYou bag, rather than a plastic bag or sealed container. We urge you to not use the following substances with your menstrual cup as this can damage the cup and cause vaginal irritation:
-
Petrol based substances e.g Vaseline
-
Essential oils
-
Harsh cleansers
-
Strong/scented soaps
-
Dishwasher
